40’s. Dang, can’t believe I’m writing a post about how to take care of your face when your nearing your 40’s. Ekk! Sounds more bad-ass if I say I’m almost at Level 40, right? But no complaints! 40 is the new 20!
My goal now is to make sure that I grow old gracefully (read: not just suddenly wilt and die) which is why I’m putting extra effort in taking care of my health. I started going to the gym last year (that’s on pause by the way), do yoga whenever I can at home (which means almost never) and eating healthy.
Another thing that has changed within the last couple of years is that I now am more attentive to my outer appearance. I use lipstick now! LOL Also, I have added some skin care regimen into my daily habits which I never cared about in the past. Aside from filling my eyebrows, concealer here and there and a dab of lipstick, I’m still not much into makeup but I have a lot of oils and creams that promises clear and youthful skin.
I admit, some of them were a waste of money because I dunno, maybe I bought the wrong type of product? I’m quite picky about the products that I put on my face. If I find out that it makes my face oily or it feels heavy, I stop using it. The main reason why I don’t wear lots of make up is because I do not like the heavy feeling, so if beauty creams and oils make me feel the same way, sayonara. Money down the drain.
However, there are some products that have wowed me in the past that I am still using them until now. The longest I’d use a product just to see if I’d grow to love it is two weeks, if I continue to use them after that, that means it’ll be a long time affair. I’m picky, yes. But when I find things that work for me? I’m going to be the most loyal buyer.
So, going back to nearing 40s. By writing this post I am not saying that I look younger than my age. What I’m saying is that I like what I see in the mirror. I believe that no amount of serum can make you beautiful if you don’t feel good about yourself. However, just because I’m okay with my skin right now doesn’t mean I will not try to delay wrinkles and lines if I can. You can bet your sweet Anastasia Dip Brow that if someone tells me that they have found the elixir of life, I’d be on the waiting list.
While I wait for that to happen, here are some of the skin care routine that I follow (that you should probably start doing too!) and products that I use.

Timeless Skin Care 20% Vitamin C Plus E Ferulic Acid Serum– I use this about twice a week to give my skin the much needed vitamin C. We all know that Vitamin C is a powerful anti-oxidant which can help even your skin tone and build collagen. This also contains vitamin E and Ferulic Acid, used to extend the life and effectiveness of vitamin C. My bottle is almost empty which means I need to get a new one soon. I keep this in the fridge by the way to help keep it stay fresh.
The Original Hyaluronic Acid Serum 100% Pure – I love this one. I apply it on my face after washing it or after every bath. Hyaluronic acid is known for its powerful anti-aging properties and it’s a great at hydrating your skin. Why I love it? It’s not oily at all. I have the oiliest face in the world so most moisturizers do not work for me at all. I always end up looking like a frying pan. This product allows me to pamper my skin without looking like I have been deep fried.

The Kevlo Eye Contour Serum – A new find. I bought this for 280 bucks (less than $6) at the Kevlo Skin Clinic early this month and I am loving it. It has helped brighten up the skin under my eyes and it also keeps the puffiness away. If you know me personally, you know the condition of my eye-bags. Dismal. Thanks to this serum, I do not have to cake my eye-bags with 3 layers of concealer!
Kevlo Signature Facial – Nothing beats getting a facial done by experts. Believe me. I had the chance to try the Kevlo Signature Facial last May 7 and I loved it! I have NEVER tried getting a facial my entire life until that day. I have this strong aversion to people touching my skin that I never tried. What made me say yes to it? The impeding arrival of my 40s. Like I said, if I can delay ’em wrinkles, I will!
The entire session lasted about an hour of blissful facial massage and treatment. Jasmeen (my therapist, who by the way was awesome) started by cleaning my face, then she massaged it with oils and stuff, I honestly don’t know what she did because I had my eyes closed most of the time. Then she used this tiny vacuum to remove my white and blackheads. Stung me a bit but hey, no pain no gain, right? Then came the mask then lastly, she used this cold hammer(?) to close my pores, I think.
I loved my skin. OMG, never have I felt so clean on the face! And you know what happens if you have gunk-free face? Make up glides on. Smoothly.
Their Kevlo Signature Facial is only for 400 bucks ($8) and they have branches at the 2nd Level of Bonifacio District in Panagda-it and at the 2nd Level of the Orange Building in Nasipit, Talamban. You can also check out K∃VLO Skin Clinic on Facebook!
Turmeric Drinks/Tea -If you watch a lot of YouTube make-up and skin-care gurus, I’m pretty sure you’ve heard them say nothing but good things about Turmeric and it’s benefits. Some apply it on their skin but I prefer to drink mine. You can find them in health shops and online shops, there are a lot of varieties available on Lazada and Amazon. and but I like really like this Turmeric Citrus that I got from Landers. So easy to prepare, just add it on either warm or cold water. Love the taste too! Tastes citrusy with a kick.
Turmeric has antiseptic and antibacterial properties and it also helps in fighting inflammation. It is also said that it can help you achieve a wrinkle-free glowing skin. Granted, this will not turn you into an overnight miracle but Turmeric has so many benefits that I don’t drink it just for my skin but for my overall health. I also make my husband drink this!

Coconut Oils – I have been using coconut oil for years now. I hate using body lotion in the day because I do not like the eeky feeling. To make up for the lack of moisturizer in the day, I use coconut oil at night on my problem areas like knees, elbows and foot. I also make my son massage my foot with coconut oil to allow maximum absorption. During cool nights, I apply coconut oil liberally on my legs. I’ve heard some people use olive oil but I’m not that rich that I can afford to bathe myself in it. Who knows, I might try that in the future.
So far, I have used coconut oil from GIGA NAturally Cebu and Coconut George (my fave because it’s lightweight). I also have Porcelana Facial VCO but I also use that on my body. To me, as long as it’s free from paraben, mineral oil and silicone, I’m good with any of them. I do not use coconut oil in the daytime because hello, fried skin. 😉

Aside from these, I am also trying to up my water intake which is kinda hard especially that I’m a coffee all the way kind of girl but I force myself because damn collagen won’t stay in place!
That’s it! I have a no-frill skin care regimen. I go for the easiest to use, light on the pocket, does not promise the moon and the stars but gives you more bang for your bucks.
How about you? What’s your favorite skin care product or regimen? Let me know in the comments!

Laysho kaayo paminawon ang serum! LOL. I’m pretty much changing my skin care routine from time to time to see what’s best for me. I also don’t like creams that will feel heavy and sticky sa face. For now, I’ve shifted to Kojic facial soap because I usually get a pimple or two during my period. Then collagen cream. Then carrot body lotion. Daghan kau kag products in fairness. Haha. Mu try nya ko sa Kevlo na facial puhon ky mag one year nako wa ka facial. Lol
This is perfect timing as I will be 40 in three short weeks. Seriously cannot thank you for the skincare tips as I am just beginning to get more serious the closer I have been getting myself, too!
I used to use vitamin C serum when I was nearing 30 (and thought I was SO OLD). I loved it! And turmeric and coconut oil are magic potions!
OMG I needed this. I’ve been buying expensive products and some work but most don’t. Serum gives me zits which is fine compared to wrinkles but come on there must be a balance!!!
Sleeping! Haha
