According to experts, children should eat a variety of fish once or twice a week as they are a great source omega-3 fatty acids, specifically the EPA and DHA which have many proven health benefits. Unfortunately, a lot of kids do not get to eat the recommend amount and for some, none at all! But the question is, should we let our kids take Omega-3 supplements instead of just letting them eat more fish?

Let’s talk about reality here. The most ideal thing would be to get the necessary nutrients from the food that we eat. However, when it comes to Omega-3, many people do not have access to fresh fish everyday and truthfully, not all kids will eat fish without putting up a fight! Aside from these, there is also the worry about the presence of heavy metals in the fish that we eat. Eating mercury-contaminated fish poses a high risk especially to children.

As a personal choice? Aside from doing my best in providing them healthy meals everyday, I let my kids take Omega-3 supplements because it gives me peace of mind knowing that I’m doing something to ensure their overall health.

With several hospital admissions and visits to the doctor last year, I am kicking my parenting game up a notch this year by changing our lifestyle and diet to healthier ones and that includes adding essential supplements to our daily intake.

If you are still on the fence about letting your kids take Omega-3 supplements, here are some of the reasons why I’m doing it.

Omega-3 helps maintain brain and eye health
DHA, the long chain Omega-3 fatty acid is the key building block for brain development and also supports eyesight development. You can make sure that your kids are getting the sufficient amount of these important nutrients by supplementing their diet with Omega-3.

Omega-3 can help reduce acne in teens
Some studies have shown the potential of Omega 3 in helping reduce acne and this is good news for my son who is turning 13 this coming February. Like most tweens and teenagers with raging hormones, he is suffering from pimples and acne.  He has been taking NeoMegalife’s DHA Junior for a few weeks now and his pimples have significantly cleared up!

Omega-3 fatty acids may reduce asthma attack
As an anti-inflammatory, it is said that it may reduce airway inflammation.   1. I didn’t realize how essential this vitamin is, especially for asthma. My older daughter has a touch of it after having had RSV in the past. So might be worth looking into and thank you for sharing all about this here Jhanis.
